Governance Action Learning Set
This report reflects the work of an action learning set comprising 11 LSPs. It has been commissioned by the ODPM and DfT to provide guidance materials - specifically developed from local perspectives - to support other LSPs and local, regional and central partners and policymakers.
Local strategic partnerships (LSPs) are very diverse and this is, and needs to be, reflected in their governance arrangements.

Regional Sustainability Framework – Sustainable Future Consultation
South East organisations are being asked their views on a framework that will help them change the way they work to support a better quality of life for current and future generations. A 12-week consultation on a draft Regional Sustainability Framework (RSF) was launched in September by the South East England Regional Assembly on behalf of a group of experts called the Sustainable Futures Group.
The RSF sets a common vision and objectives for regional organisations to make sure economic growth benefits everyone in the region, protects and improves the environment and makes efficient use of natural resources. It also sets four priorities, which businesses as well as public and voluntary organisations will need to build into their operations:
• Achieving sustainable levels of resource use
• Reducing the region’s carbon footprint
• Ensuring that the South East is prepared for the inevitable impacts of climate change
• Ensuring that everyone, including the most deprived people, has an equal opportunity to benefit from and contribute to the region's sustainable prosperity.
The consultation runs until 26 November 2007. The full consultation document and an online questionnaire are available on the Assembly website www.southeast-ra.gov.uk/rsf.

Building Health is a project that sets out to increase awareness of the public health role of organisations concerned with urban design and improving the public realm, in particular in relation to population levels of physical activity, and to facilitate implementation of good health-promoting practice. It will be a useful guide for spatial and community planners wanting to know how to better integrate health into the long term planning agenda.

Community Develoment Challenge
The Community Development challenge seeks to make the case for community development’s integral role in empowering communities and assist Central and Local Government to do so in an effective way. It calls for a step change in levels of recognition, resources, support, management and training to fulfil the potential of community development to contribute to building active, sustainable and empowered communities. This report recognises that both government and the community development occupation itself have roles to play in achieving this.
